Houston enjoyed a cakewalk in their home opener against the Miami Dolphins last week, winning 30-10 behind a 24 point second quarter outburst that included two Arian Foster running scores and a Matt Schaub to Andre Johnson TD strike. The Texan defense set up the scoring drives by intercepting Miami rookie Ryan Tannehill three times.  Jacksonville traveled to Minnesota in week one and lost a heartbreaker in overtime, 26-23.

Two of the three Houston Texan interceptions came off of J.J. Watt deflected passes and contributed to a defense that allowed just 275 total yards of offense against the Dolphins. The only touchdown of the day for Miami came from a returned punt. Matt Schaub was 20 of 31 passing for 266 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions. Although he didn’t need to be for Houston to get the win, workhorse running back Arian Foster was not as effective as normal in rushing for 79 yards on 26 carries for a three yard average.

Although they lost the game last week, those are the type of methodical contests that Jacksonville needs in order to have a shot at winning. Once games turn into track meets and the points get into the 30’s, the Jaguars just can’t keep up. Blain Gabbert was 23 of 39 for 260 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. Jacksonville should be happy with those numbers and would take them week in and week out. Jaguar running back Rashad Jennings left the game with a knee injury after rushing eight times for 31 yards, turning the running game over to Maurice Jones-Drew. Jones-Drew, coming off of a 38 day contract hold out was a little rusty, but effective running for 77 yards on 19 carries.
