The Miami Dolphins were a mess last season and things don’t look to be getting much better for them so far this season. QB Ryan Tannehill appears to be in way over his head as he completed just 55.6 percent of his passes for 219 yards with three interceptions while getting sacked three times in the opener. Reggie Bush averaged nearly five yards per carry as the bright spot for the Dolphins and Daniel Thomas carried just three times as Miami played from behind most of the day. Bush also had six catches, Davone Bess had five catches, and Anthony Fasano and Brian Hartline had three catches each. The Dolphins defense was on the field all day long allowing just 83 rushing yards and 254 passing yards while sacking the opposing QB twice. Koa Misi had 11 tackles, Karlos Dansby had nine tackles, and Randy Starks had two sacks. The expectations were low in Miami this season but even those may not have been set low enough.
The Oakland Raiders started their season on Monday with big hopes but it ended with disappointment as they fell to the Chargers. QB Carson Palmer threw the ball 46 times completing 32 of them with one going for a touchdown and he was sacked three times. Darren McFadden averaged just 2.1 yards per carry as the Oakland running game was ineffective but he caught 13 passes for 86 yards. Brandon Myers had five catches while Derek Hagan and Rod Streater each had four as the Raiders offense moved the ball but shot themselves in the foot when it counted most with penalties and other drive stoppers. Defensively Oakland allowed just 32 yards on the ground and 226 passing yards but had just one sack. Miles Burris had nine tackles, Phillip Wheeler had eight tackles, and Michael Huff had six. Oakland seems to be missing something as even with McFadden they didn’t seem al that threatening.
Miami is 6-1 against the spread in their last seven AFC games, 5-1 against the spread following a loss, and 2-6 against the spread against a team with a losing record. Oakland is 7-2 against the spread in their last nine road games, 2-5 against the spread in their last nine AFC games, and 1-4-1 against the spread in their last six games overall. The underdog has covered in four of the last five meetings of these two.
A short week and a cross country road trip is in store for the Raiders but an opponent who is among the worst teams in the NFL if not the worst team in the NFL is their opponent making it all worth it for them. Miami is very bad this year and look for Tannehill to struggle mightily once again.
